The advent of die-stamping, and industrial manufacturing methods, in from Sheffield and Birmingham silversmiths ensured that the candelabras of the Georgian and Victorian periods were manufactured to be of a much higher quality.
The majority of antique silver candlestick design follows the same basic principles. A flat base, thin column and nozzle were commonplace. Designs did vary, though the method of construction remained consistent throughout the period. The value of a candlestick is determined by the aesthetics and quality of their design. Candlesticks that pre-date can still be found in good condition, though as with anything else there may be signs of aging.
Candlesticks that were manufactured after may suffer more damage, primarily because of the silver used to sculpt designs were very thin. Cracks, holes and scratches were not uncommon.
